Our house:
You will be guided by one of the family whenever possible, or by a guide. We try to make the tours interesting and amusing to bring out the personality of our family home. You will learn about Cottage Ornée, see the beauty of the exquisite rooms, and listen to the stories and history that have been part of this house since it was built in 1793.
Our Gardens:
Enjoy a leisurely stroll round these beautiful gardens majestically overlooked by Houghton Lodge, an 18th Century Grade II* listed Gothic Cottage Orné, idyllically set above the tranquil waters of the River Test. Bloom Bloom Tearoom at Houghton Lodge Gardens:
Enjoy the peaceful and picturesque setting of Houghton Lodge Gardens from the tearoom. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the tea rooms without purchasing an entry to the gardens. If you cannot see online bookings for an afternoon it means we have a wedding reception in the walled garden which will be closed, HOWEVER the outer garden, riverside walk and café are still open and we will let you into the garden at half price-please pay in the café when you get here, pre booking not required.
Venue Hire, Weddings, Events, Photoshoots & Films:
Houghton Lodge is a stunning location for weddings and is one of the most romantic Historic Houses in Hampshire. Overlooking the famous chalk stream of The River Test, with panoramic views over the water meadows and along the Test Valley. Houghton Lodge Gardens provides a stunning setting for any number of special functions from, bespoke weddings, baby showers, retirement parties, anniversaries, wakes and special occasion afternoon teas to special occasions to providing the ideal location for filming and photoshoots.
Accommodation:
We have transformed a range of redundant calf sheds to six bespoke en suite studio rooms, two are fully accessible. Each is named after a variety of apple growing in the walled garden. Each room has a kitchenette with a microwave, kettle, toaster, Grind coffee machine and fridge (but not an oven or hobb). The bathrooms have been designed with automatic lighting, a non-misting ‘smart’ mirror, heated floor and towel rail; Fluffy white towels and toiletries from The White Company.
Fishing:
Houghton Lodge has half a mile on one of the main carriers of The River Test. We take pride in trying to provide some of the best fishing this beautiful river can offer and maintain stocks to a very high level. The beat has its own fishing huts and private car parking. It is beautifully kept, with good casting and little obstruction. The fishing is mainly brown trout with some grayling and occasional rainbow trout; fishermen may keep a brace of fish if they require.
